Vitiligo

Body Aesthetics

Vitiligo is a condition that causes the loss of skin pigment, resulting in white patches on the skin. It occurs when the cells that produce pigment (melanocytes) are destroyed. The cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the melanocytes.

Vitiligo can affect any part of the body, but it is most noticeable on the face, neck, and hands. It can also affect the mucous membranes (such as the inside of the mouth) and the eyes. The condition can occur at any age, but it is most common in people between the ages of 20 and 30.

Treatments are available to help restore pigment to the affected skin. These may include topical medications, light therapy, and surgery. However, certain types of vitiligo may remain resistant to treatment. It is important to see a Dermatologist if you have vitiligo, as they can recommend the most appropriate treatment for you.
